About the Mill

The Moulin de L'Oulme was built in 1849 by Mr. Laurent Dupoux, doctor of medicine. The water arrives at the mill through a channel derived from the Claysse. She spins the wheel of the Mill before returning to the nearby river. The Watermill is subject to possible river floods, especially during the so-called "Cévenols" episodes. Many millers will follow one another. The mill remains in operation until 1954 then stops definitively.

Abandoned for a long time, the Missionary Brothers of the countryside restored and rebuilt the Moulin de l'Oulme on ruins in 1980. It was a ruin open to all winds. The first four brothers (Xavier Vincent, Daniel Vallée, Jacques Paul Lamblin and Jean Paul Duriche) made it habitable, in addition to their seasonal work outside. In working life, they were salaried: agricultural workers, carpenters, postmen. Then they retired. Those who came to see them liked to contemplate the organic garden: tomatoes, leeks, pumpkins, plums, apples, etc. This completed their retreat. They put everything together. The Moulin de L'Oulme was therefore a center of animation, reception and spiritual reflection in the region for thirty years in which several brothers lived.
